Looking to take extra care of your skin this summer? Here are my best skincare tips for summer!
It’s summer! I absolutely love the carefree vibes of summer, but this season is one where we can’t go carefree with our skincare game. As it gets hotter, your skincare routine needs to adapt to the new weather to keep your skin clear and glowing (especially if you live in a really hot and/or humid and/or dry climate lol).
In this post, I’m sharing my top skincare tips for summer which you absolutely need to know (along with some product recommendations)! After reading this, you’ll be ready to achieve the ultimate state of summer skin and prepared to be safe in the Sun!

Skincare Tips For Summer:
1. Level Up Your SPF Game
This is one of the most important tips I could ever give you. As the planet continues to get hotter, it’s more important now than ever before to make sure your skin is protected from UV rays from the Sun! Wearing sunscreen also prevents premature aging, minimizes sunburns, protects your skin from discoloration, and most importantly lowers skin cancer risk.
Depending on your skin tone and type, you’re going to need different types of SPF protection (for example, SPF 30 vs SPF 50). However, these are some general basics when it comes to buying and applying sunscreen:
- mineral sunscreen is the way to go
- get a sunscreen with at least SPF 15
- make sure to apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes before being exposed to the Sun
- reapply every 2-3 hours!
A sunscreen I’ve been testing out recently and loving is the Innisfree sunscreen!
An affordable yet high-quality sunscreen:
2. Use a Lightweight Moisturizer
As the seasons change, so does your skincare routine. The heavier moisturizers you use in the winter may not work for your skin in the summer, especially if it gets really hot and humid where you live during these summer months!
That’s why I recommend, if you don’t already regularly use one, a lightweight or even gel moisturizer. The key to choosing a moisturizer is finding one that properly hydrates your skin without breaking it out (trust me, I’ve had my struggles with this).
But, thankfully, I’ve found a great moisturizer, especially for those who have acne-prone skin and still want to make sure their skin is moisturized in the summer!

3. Use a Visor/Hat To Protect From The Sun
This tip can make or break the sunburn game especially if you’re spending prolonged time in the Sun. This summer, it could be worth it to invest in a cute and protective visor/hat to protect your skin and eyes from the Sun!
I definitely recommend this if you’re outside in the middle of the day!
4. Exfoliate In Moderation
It is scientifically proven that exfoliation increases your skin’s sensitivity to the Sun. That’s why it’s best to be careful when exfoliating in the summer. Always make sure to be wearing SPF when outside (and even inside if you’re exposed to sunlight through your windows), and don’t over exfoliate, especially if you have sensitive skin.
My recommendation is to only exfoliate 2-3 nights per week!
5. Double Cleanse Your Face
This is so so important…in the summer, most of us tend to sweat a lot (unless you’re one of those people who glows ;)), therefore our skin tends to accumulate a lot of grime, sweat, and dirt, all things that could break out your skin and make it dull.
That’s why it’s extremely important to have a good cleansing system in place so you can properly clean your skin every night and prepare it for other skin products to be absorbed (also super important when you’re wearing makeup)! I recommend using a micellar water followed by a regular cleanser depending on your skin type to properly cleanse your skin.
6. Use Non-Comedogenic Products
While I’m including this in my summer skin post, this is a tip you should be following year round: non-comedogenic skincare products can make or break the game, especially if you struggle with acne.
7. Refresh Your Skin Throughout The Day
Summer days can be so long, so it’s kinda nice to refresh your skin throughout the day. Here are my recommendations for giving your skin a little love throughout the day based on your skin type:
- oily skin: blotting paper is a must! It soaks up all the oil on your face and leaves you shine-free (in a good way)!
- dry skin: a nice refreshing mist is so nice on hot summer days and for making sure your skin is hydrated throughout the day
8. Focus On Skincare For Your Body
And last, but definitely not least, the skin on your body is just as important as the skin on your face/neck! No matter where on your body, if skin is exposed to the Sun, please apply SPF! I personally am doubling down on applying sunscreen to my upper arms since I have keratosis pillaris (my fellow KP buddies lemme know in the comments :))! In addition to SPF, be sure to keep the rest of your skin on your body hydrated and happy!
