Best Skincare Tips For Oily Skin:
1. Wash Your Face (Not Too Much, Though)
Anyone who has oily skin has almost been definitely told to wash their face more. And while yes, you should wash your face morning and night if you have oily skin, you do not need to be over-washing your face. This will actually dry out your skin, causing it to produce more sebum and increase oil production.
My recommendation is to use a nice, basic cleanser in order to remove dirt and excess oil! I personally love a good Cerave cleanser!

2. Hydrate Your Skin!
Another misconception about skincare for oily skin is that you should lay off the moisturizer since you already have oil on your face. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Everyone, regardless of their skin type, needs to use moisturizer to hydrate their skin barrier. However, depending on your skin type, the type of moisturizer you need will be different.
For my oily skin friends, I strongly recommend a lightweight moisturizer. Moisturizers which are gel and/or have a thinner consistency are not going to smother your skin and clog your pores. Still, make sure that your moisturizer actually has hydrating ingredients such as ceramides! I use my favorite Cerave moisturizer for its simple but highly effective formulation!

3. Use Benzoyl Peroxide To Reduce Oiliness
One trick to reduce oiliness is by using benzoyl peroxide. This skincare ingredient strips oil from the skin and also helps get rid of dead skin cells. If you also struggle with acne, this is a good skincare ingredient to use! A popular skincare product with benzoyl peroxide is the PanOxyl cleanser: my friend absolutely swears by this!
A great product for reducing oiliness:
PRO TIP: use this 3 times a week in the shower! Do not wash it off right away – let the cleanser sit on your face for a minute so the active ingredients actually have time to work. This will ensure your money doesn’t go down the drain (literally)!!
4. Make Sure To Exfoliate Regularly
This is an absolute must! Exfoliating regularly can result in less oil produced by your skin and the removal of dead skin cells. However, be sure not to over-exfoliate as that can damage your skin barrier.
5. Use Oil-Free Skincare Products
This is also another important skincare tip for oily skin which I want to share: avoid products that already contain oil in them! These are more so meant for people with drier skin who need the extra moisture. But us people with oily skin do not need this extra oil!
Stick with skincare products that don’t clog your pores but still hydrate and take care of your skin.
6. Still Make Sure To Apply SPF
I know that sunscreen can be a pain to apply, especially if you have oily skin. I know that when I was still testing out sunscreens, I found so many that were too oily for my skin or left a white cast.
That’s why it’s important to invest in a good sunscreen that feels good on your skin and also offers proper protection from harmful UV rays! I personally love the Elta MD Tinted SPF 46 because it provides a blurred look to the skin and is oily-skin friendly (as well as acne-friendly)!

7. Don’t Touch Your Face
Last but not least, don’t touch your face!! We all have so much oil and dirt on our fingertips, and when you touch your face, you’re transferring that to your skin. This can lead to not only more oil on your face but also acne breakouts!
However, it can be easier said than done. Whenever I feel inclined to touch my face, I try to distract myself (sometimes, I even sit on my hands).
