Having makeup organization problems? I share 5 helpful tips to better organize your makeup vanity and products.
It can be hard to get your makeup organization game in shape, but it can be done. In this post, I’m sharing 5 insanely good tips to help you get your makeup collection organized.
With these makeup organization hacks, you’ll learn about all the best makeup organization ideas, from having a makeup organizer to organizing your makeup products by category.
This is the post I wish I would’ve had when trying to organize my makeup vanity: trust me, after reading this, you’ll know exactly how to organize your makeup.
Makeup Organization Hacks:
1. Have A Set Spot To Put Your Makeup In
Recreate this image with your own makeup vanity:
This is one of the most important steps: oftentimes, our bathroom sink areas don’t have enough storage space for makeup on top of all the other products for your skin and teeth. So, a makeup vanity is the perfect idea!
A dedicated place to store all your makeup items(plus do your makeup!)seriously helps with organization.
Where You Can Put Your Makeup Vanity:
- in your bedroom
- by a window(natural light is great when doing your makeup)
- in your closet(if you have a humongous walk in closet that isn’t completely filled, you can put your makeup vanity in there)
2. Purchase A Makeup Organizer
I declared this amazing makeup organizer by Sorbus my top recommendation in my makeup organizer post. In this post, I share why you need a makeup organizer, along with some great product recommendations depending on what types of products you want to store(eyeshadow, lipstick, etc.).

The main reason why you should purchase a makeup organizer is because it offers specialized organization. Trust me, it makes a difference.
3. Have A System Set In Place That Works For You
This is a big tip. Makeup organization has to be customized to you and you only. What works for me may not work for you and vice versa.
That’s why it’s so important to think about the makeup products you use and how you can create an efficient organizing system that actually works for you.
4. Organize Your Makeup Products By Category/Type
Referring to tip 3 above, take some time to actually think about the types of products you use. For example, I’ve organized my makeup products into 2 drawers:
- face products
- eye and lip products
This is a system that works best for me, and I know where everything is. Depending on what types of products you use, you’re going to have a simpler or more complex makeup organization system.
5. Organize Your Makeup Products By How Often You Use Them
Honestly, this is the best organization tip I could give you: organize your products by how often you use them.
I’d recommend a system like this(feel free to tweak it):
- makeup products you use daily
- products you use for special occasions
- products you use for a specific activity
Here’s an example(not my personal situation): I use concealer, powder and blush daily, so I’d put those products together. I use mascara, foundation, and eyeshadow only for special occasions, so I’d put these products together. And finally, I use lipstick for my world class dance recitals so that goes in a different section entirely 😉
