The Basics:
First off, some basics. The most important thing to consider when doing eye makeup is what would complement your eyes/face. We each have unique facial features: what looks great on you may not look great on me and vice versa!
For example, I have larger, brown eyes. Because of this, I like to use warmer eyeshadow colors and utilize definition to emphasize my eyes even more!
The best look is going to be the one which complements you and highlights your beauty!
In addition, less is more when it comes to eye makeup. You always want to use a light touch when applying eyeshadow in order to not go too heavy. Going too heavy with your eye makeup can de-emphasize the natural beauty of your eyes, which we definitely don’t want!
How To Do A Daytime Look:
I’m going to teach you how to do a basic daytime eye makeup look which will suit pretty much anyone! Here it is below:
- lay down a base shade that matches your skin all over your eyelid
- add a lighter shade/shine to your inner corner and your brow bone (attracts the eye to high points)!
- use a slightly darker shade than your base in your crease and outer eyelid, adding definition to your eyes
- use your base shade to buff out any rough patches in your makeup
- optional: glitter!! Who doesn’t love a good daytime glitter? 😉 Add this glitter on the center of your eyelid!
And you’re done! This daytime eye makeup look is so incredible for anyone to try.
How To Do A Nighttime Look:
We can’t do daytime without nighttime, so here’s my tutorial for the perfect nighttime eye makeup look!
- lay down a base shade which matches your skin tone all over your eyelid
- use a slightly darker shade (dark brown is a good choice) to use in your crease and outer lid: this adds definition!
- use an even darker shade like brown or black on the very outer portion of your lid/crease to add even more definition
- make sure that all the colors on your eyes are blended smoothly and not choppy (using the base shade to buff out the look is a good idea)!
- add some highlight/lighter eyeshadow to your inner corner and brow bone to draw the eye
- optional: glitter!! Using a glitter which is a deeper color really seals the deal on this look
And that’s it! With some practice, these eye makeup looks will be easy as pie 🙂
Final Tips:
- You can get good quality brushes at Target (you don’t need to spend a fortune)!
- Holding your makeup brush on the middle of the handle ensures a lighter touch, but if you want more precision, hold your brush closer to the actual hairs.
- Larger, looser eye makeup brushes are good for overall color dispersion and blending. Smaller, more compact brushes are better for adding definition!
- You can use an eyebrow brush to add eyeshadow eyeliner and/or smudge out your water line!
- Any mistake can be fixed: just have a neutral shade to blend out any accidents.
- Glitter never hurts 😉
And that’s it! I hope you enjoyed my ultimate guide to eye makeup: go out and have fun! <3
