First Off, What Is A Medical Assistant?
A medical assistant is a healthcare professional who works alongside physicians to assist patients. They often act as the link between doctors and patients. Their job usually consists of medical and administrative tasks.
Medical assistants are most often found in outpatient clinics and medical offices!
How To Become A Medical Assistant?
It’s actually a pretty straightforward process to become a medical assistant. Below are the steps you need to take!
How to become a medical assistant:
- get your high school diploma or GED
- join a medical assistant program (make sure your program is accredited): can take as little as a couple months!
- get certified: take the CMA exam to become a certified medical assistant!
While there are people who become medical assistants with just a high school diploma, getting your certification leads to better job opportunities (they also get paid better)!
What Does A Medical Assistant Do (A Day In The Life):
Being a medical assistant involves a wide range of tasks. On the administrative side, they have to make appointments, greet patients, update medical records, general bookkeeping, and do computer entry.
On the clinical side, they have to prepare examination rooms, collect medical history information from patients, assisting physicians with whatever they need, doing basic medical tasks (such as removing sutures), and provide information to patients about their medical needs.
A day in the life of a medical assistant could look like this:
- starting off the workday by taking calls and updating patient records
- segueing into appointments by prepping patients to see the doctors and documenting their medical histories
- help the doctors with basic medical tasks such as drawing blood and removing sutures
- end the day off with uploading medical data from the day and answering calls from patients
The $$$ Details:
