How To Do Natural Makeup:
Before I share the steps to the ultimate natural makeup look, I just want to let you know that in no way do you have to follow this routine to a T. Based on your makeup desires, you can add or take away steps to this routine to make it your perfect natural makeup routine. This is just to serve as inspo which you can hopefully use in your makeup journey! <3
And with that, let’s get into it.
1. Start With A Good Moisturizer And/Or Primer
Having a good base can help your makeup last all day. While a good moisturizer is a great way to prep your skin for makeup, a lightweight primer is also amazing for smoothing out your skin and preparing it for your other face products.
The e.l.f. power grip primer is a great option for a super lightweight primer! If you don’t want to wear a primer, make sure to apply a good quality moisturizer before makeup!
2. Go In With Tinted Moisturizer Or Concealer
For a natural makeup look, we’re not trying to do a full face of makeup. That’s why I recommend only spot concealing or using a tinted moisturizer to get some coverage but still have your skin looking like your skin. For spot concealing, I’d recommend putting concealer on blemishes or other problem areas on your skin. The concealer should match your skin tone really well to almost give the appearance of no makeup!
That’s why I recommend the Rare Beauty concealer: with an expansive shade range and a natural finish, it’s a great concealer option for everyday!
3. Set With A Lightweight Powder
This tip is especially important if you have oilier skin. Since, natural makeup usually has to last the entire day, it’s important that your hard work doesn’t melt away the minute you step outside.
Using a lightweight powder on your T-zone can make your makeup more long lasting without making your makeup look cakey!
4. You Can Minimally Contour If You Desire
This step is not essential for a good natural makeup look, but it can definitely uplevel your look! I’d recommend only contouring the perimeter of your face for this type of makeup look. And even if you don’t want to use a hardcore contour product, you can achieve a more natural effect by using bronzer!
5. Blush Is A Must
I love blush. It helps to soften up a makeup look and add life back into your face. Finding a good blush that complements your skin tone can seriously step up your everyday makeup look.
I love the Tarte blush because it’s super long lasting and has a beautiful finish! I currently have the mini version and it has lasted me for yearssss.
6. You Can Never Go Wrong With Highlight
You really can never go wrong with it. Highlight, like blush, also adds life back into your face. I recommend applying highlighter to your cheekbones for sure!
The fan-favorite Rare Beauty highlighter has so many beautiful shades to choose from, and the liquid formulation allows for a more natural look.
7. Fill In And/Or Shape Your Brows With Gel
This is for my peeps with unruly or sparse eyebrows. Depending on how full your eyebrows are, you can either go for a tinted brow gel or a clear one. Some people get by with just using moisturizer for shaping their brows (truly a time-saver when you’re in a rush lol).
At the end of the day, since this is a more natural makeup look, your brows absolutely don’t have to look perfect. Remember, less is more!
8. Apply Eyeshadow To Add Dimension
This step is optional: while I absolutely love adding eyeshadow to my everyday makeup look, I know not everyone feels the same way.
However, if you do want to incorporate eyeshadow into your daily makeup routine, the e.l.f. bite size palette is an amazing choice. It comes with the perfect minimalist set of neutral shades and is crazy cheap($3)!!
9. Go In With Mascara
Mascara is a great way to tie an eye makeup look together and is a staple part of the natural makeup routine. I love the L’Oreal Lash Paradise mascara because it’s super long lasting and really does a great job at lengthening my lashes and making them look fuller!
What I love about all the makeup products in this post is that they can all be found at easy-access retailers like Target and Sephora!
10. Finally Use The Perfect Neutral Lip Product
Technically the final step to this makeup look. I would recommend investing some time to find your perfect everyday lip shade that truly complements your skin tone/undertones.
On top of that, you can decide what type of finish you want to wear on the daily like matte, glossy, or satin!
11. Use Blotting Powder/Spray To Refresh Throughout The Day
Last, but definitely not least, retouching your makeup throughout the day. I would recommend applying sunscreen powder every 2 hours to protect your skin from the Sun, even with makeup on. You can also use a hydrating spray if your skin gets dehydrated easily.
If you have oily skin, blotting paper is a great way to refresh your skin and keep it looking shine-free (in a good way) all day long. You don’t have to invest too much money into this: the Sephora Collection blotting paper gives you 100 reasonably-sized sheets for $4!
