Easy Healthy Food Ideas:
1. Veggies!
Most vegetable are considered healthy, so that means you have a lot of variety to choose from! I’d recommend incorporating multiple types of veggies into your diet so you can maximize all the different benefits they provide.
For example, I love to eat bell peppers, not just because they’re incredibly tasty, but because they also are a good source of antioxidants! I also love cucumber because it’s very low in carbs but still yummy! Finally, one of my favorite veggies is tomato (which I know is technically a fruit but shhhh ;)) which is a great source of vitamin C and potassium!
You can incorporate veggies into your meals by having them on the side with seasoning, putting them in items such as rice and/or soup, and eating salads!
2. Time for Fruits
Ah, one of my least favorite food groups to include in my routine. It’s taken me a long time to find fruits that are healthy and I actually like to eat. Here are some of my recommendations for tasty yet still nutritious fruits!
I love eating guacamole and avocado toast; avocado is an amazing source of healthy fats, fiber, and potassium! Blueberries are also super yummy and one of the strongest sources of antioxidants. Continuing with the berry theme, strawberries are so delicious and filled with manganese (an essential nutrient) and vitamin C.
You can eat fruits on the daily by making fruit milkshakes, yogurt parfait with berries, or even fruit salad!
3. The Power of Protein
Protein is so so important for growth/development, immune health, strength, and energy! Good for us, protein is surprisingly easy to incorporate into our daily diets.
There are so many amazing sources of protein out there, but my personal favorites have to include eggs, lentils, milk, cottage cheese, and peanuts! I personally get Breakfast Carnation from my local grocery store which has a higher concentration of protein, so I get my protein and dairy intake in (more on dairy in the next section).
4. Dairy All Day
Dairy is one of my absolute favorite food groups EVER. I know that seems like an exaggeration, but I consider it to be an uncompromisable part of my daily diet. If you’re able to tolerate dairy, then I’d highly recommend including it somehow in your daily diet!
In moderation, of course, I love to take in cheese, milk, and yogurt! Greek yogurt is especially good because it’s nutrient rich.
5. Multivitamins
Nowadays, most of us lack the nutrient intake our bodies need. Insert multivitamins! I personally take iron pills for my deficiency (hello borderline anemia 🙁 ).
On a more serious note, speak to your healthcare provider if you feel like you need a multivitamin to combat a deficiency you may have! Multivitamins, while not a substitute for a majorly healthy diet, can supplement your food and overall improve your health/strength.
6. (Healthy) Fats For the Win
Healthy fats are so important for your body’s energy level and fuel. I know fat has a bad rep, but good fats are an absolute essential.
Foods like dairy products, eggs, and avocados are great sources of good fats. Below, these are the ways I like to incorporate them into my diet.
- Dairy: I love to drink milkshakes (which I put milk and yogurt in) as well as storebought milk drinks with added proteins to kill two birds with one stone 🙂
- Eggs: there are so many ways you can eat eggs…I personally prefer scrambled or boiled!
- Avocados: like I mentioned in an earlier section, I love to eat avocado toast with some salt and pepper sprinkled on top. I also love some good ol’ guac!
7. Grains
Grains, in my humble opinion, are so underrated. But in fact, they provide so many nutrients and fiber. If you’re fine with having more carbs in your diet (which grains do have), then this section is for you.
Powerful grains include (brown) rice and oats. I personally love a good bowl of oatmeal (if you eat it with fruits, bonus points to you) ;)!
8. Nuts
If you don’t have a nut allergy, then this section is for you! Nuts are one of the easiest ways to add a healthy element to your diet. Because they’re a high source of magnesium and vitamins, nuts are a great healthy food idea.
Some popular nut options include almonds, coconuts, and walnuts! You could eat them by themself or even season them for some added flavor.
9. Bread
Healthy food wouldn’t be complete without bread. And while you may be thinking about the stereotypical “unhealthy” white bread, there are multiple types of bread, many of which are a healthier alternative and still provide nutritional value and taste (like Ezekiel bread)!
If you’re looking for a simple alternative, try breads that have grains!
