Learn how to start off your day properly and be more productive with your time!

They say that the way you start the first part of your day determines how the rest of the day goes. So, if you wake up and you’re in a rush(cue stress), chances are, you’re going to feel not so great the entire day.
What if I told you that by implementing a simple and effective morning routine you could have a productive and fulfilling day?
Well, you can.
In this blog post, I share 9 things you NEED to do before 9AM(or whatever time your school/work starts) to be more productive.
Wake Up
This is sooo important. It is CRUCIAL that you get a good night’s sleep. This can be achieved with a good night routine(let me know in the comments below if you want to see a night routine blog post) and going to bed on time!
The recommended amount of sleep is 7-9 hours, so be sure that if you’re waking up, for example, at 7AM, that you go to bed at 10PM-12AM!
Drink Water
Water is essential for life, so it’s best to start off your day with a cup of water!
The recommended amount is about 8 cups a day, which is achievable if you make an effort(something I need to do).
I recommend filling up a cup of water the night before and keeping next to your bed, so when you wake up in the morning, you have a cup of water within reach!
Journal
While some people like to journal after they’ve gotten out of bed, I prefer journaling as soon as I wake up.
This is when I’m at my most “pure” state and when I feel most at peace!
You can just get a random notebook from literally any store, a bullet journal, or a book meant for journaling.
I’ve been seeing so many influencers with The Five Minute Journal(I personally want to get this myself). It’s a beginner friendly way to journal without it seeming tedious.
Plan Out Day
Planning out your day(or time blocking if you want to go hardcore)helps promote efficiency!
I recommend buying a planner from somewhere like Walmart, Target or Office Depot!
Go over the tasks you have to do that day and plan out your day by the hour! Allow for some flexibility in your schedule: you never know what’ll pop up last minute!
Make Your Bed
This is probably one of the most important steps in this routine.
Crazy, right?
By making your bed, you are successfully completing a (small) task, which will make you feel happy and more accomplished.
This will set the mood for the rest of your day!
Exercise/Stretch
While you don’t have to do a hardcore workout program from Chloe Ting every morning, it’s good to start off the day with some physical activity!
This is what my ideal exercise routine looks like:
- warmup stretch
- 10-20 minute YouTube workout(there are so many good ones)
- cooldown stretch(to prevent cramping)
Physical activity increases endophins, which make us happier. It also gets our blood flowing, improves mental clarity and is overall a key part of leading a healthy lifestyle!

Shower
While some people don’t like to shower in the morning, if you’ve worked out, chances are that you’re all gross and sweaty.
A shower will clean you off, soothe your muscles and freshen you for the day!
Skincare
This is SUCH an important step! You should do your skincare after you shower, cause then you’re not going to be washing off all your products by doing it before showering.
Also, your pores will be more open and ready to receive product.

Eat
This is THE most important step: breakfast is the most essential meal of the day, so you need to make sure you’re having a breakfast that is filling and filled with the stuff you need to start off your day.
Some breakfast ideas:
- avocado toast(seriously so good with some pepper sprinkled on top)
- oatmeal with some fruits(optional)
- bagel
- green smoothie
And that’s it! I know that these 9 steps sound like they take a lot of time, but they really don’t!
Trust me, it’s worth it cause the benefits are insane(you’ll be sooo much more productive)!
